About Us
Our History
Founded in Charleston on March 15, 1945, Catholic Charities of South Carolina has served our state's most vulnerable populations for over 75 years. We are a unique organization that serves the entire state through our ministries:
-
We serve over 50,000 individuals per year through our client-choice Food Pantries, which retain the dignity of our visitors by treating them to a grocery store experience to obtain food.
-
Our Restorative Justice program was recently highlighted and praised by Gov. Henry McMaster in helping South Carolina obtain the lowest recidivism rate in the country.
-
Our niche Save a Smile program fills a huge dental health gap by providing dentures to those with missing or dysfunctional teeth.
-
Clean of Heart Ministries creates a safe space where those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness can get a warm shower and access laundry services.
Please join in our mission and help us change the lives of those in need by donating or volunteering.
"'Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?' He said to him, 'You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
- Matthew 22:36-39
Our Mission
Informed and inspired through the mission of the Catholic Church, Catholic Charities of South Carolina promotes dignity, ministers to the spiritual and physical needs of those under our care, and acts to break the cycle of poverty in the Palmetto State. In God, all things are possible.

Our Vision
Through prayer and good works, we provide a compassionate and personal approach, and restore awareness of the dignity of every person.
